Registers, reeds and voices
A specification becomes useful when it tells you how an instrument behaves, not when it turns a list of register names into a status symbol.
A register is a control for selecting or combining reed banks. A voice describes the audible colour created by that combination and by the instrument’s construction. The terms are related, but they do not remove the need to listen. Two instruments can use similar labels and still differ in response, tuning and projection.
When you read a listing, separate confirmed facts from sales language. Count what the source actually identifies, note the keyboard system and ask which dimensions are measured. If a seller says “professional” or “concert quality,” translate that phrase into questions about condition, service history, use and a hands-on test.
The Atlas model fields are deliberately modest. They record action and maker relationships when sourced, then send readers to a technician or manufacturer for details that affect a real purchase.
